Book Haul #2: December 2015

Book Haul #1: December 2015

Image (1)So aside from the fact it was Christmas, I just sort of went on a book buying spree and bought a load of books. Let’s face it now, I’m broke. After having to buy both Christmas presents and my own books, I have no more money for anything…

But on the plus side, I have lots of books to read now!!!

So these are the books I bought this month (click on the title of each books for a link to goodreads:

1. The Baker Street Boys Box Set Collection by Anthony Read

This series came in a box set that I found after trying to find a series that was short but thrilling. I chose this series mainly because of my love for thrillers/ mysteries and a love for the BBC show Sherlock.

2. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

I know this book has been out for a while and has won two Carnegie medals. For some reason I never really looked at it but recently I did and I thought it sounded amazing. I then went on to read the first chapter of it and decided to buy it straight away. It is part of the Chaos Walking series and I look forward to reading it in the Christmas holidays in around 4 weeks time.

3. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Wow. I bought this book on the first of November and finished it on the first of November. It was amazing and I thoroughly recommend reading it. It is so well written and I loved it. But… I don’t think I’ll ever finish the series. I think it would have worked better as a single, stand alone book but I guess that’s just my opinion.

4. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien

I read the first book after watching the movie *horrified gasp*. Anyway I loved it and now have the second book to read. Some people have told me that the sequel is -meh- but I might as well try it if I enjoyed the first book so much.

5. At First Sight by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Don’t ask why I have this book and not The Death Cure. In a moment of hurry and panic for the waterstones closing for the day, I rushed in and picked up Scorch Trials and what I thought to be The Death Cure, but as you can see, it wasn’t. Hopefully I will enjoy Scorch Trials so that I read the next book and etc… but who knows? We’ll see…

6. The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

I have read the first book and I swear it finished way too soon. They are making a second series of its TV adaptation but I know the TV show is very different and am scared it might give away stuff because I’ve heard it moves much faster. Anyway I enjoyed the 100 and am now going to read the next book some time in the holidays.

7. The Death Cure

Honestly, this book was just bought for school for my GCSE English Literature. I will read it before hand as it is quite famous and well spoken of but I’m not sure, it isn’t a genre or time/era I usually read so who knows?

8. The Giver by Lois Lowry

I have seen this book in shops many times and have stopped to pick it up, but I always then found a book I had been meaning to buy for a longer length of time. Finally I have bought it and though the movie cover, it still looks pretty cool. I am looking forward to this book mainly because though dystopian, it is different. It seems like more than just another ‘evil government’ book.

9. Sabriel by Garth Nix

This book has been around me for years but for some reason – unlike The Giver – I never thought to pick it up. Finally I did and wondered what was wrong with me to constantly miss it out, time and time again.

10. Storm Glass by Maria V. Snyder

Two Words: High Fantasy. The reason I even looked at it. Actually this book was tucked away in a box in the bookshop, not yet un-boxed. Trying to find another book to complete the 3 for 2 deal I looked through the box and found this. It is a really lucky find and I am looking forwards to getting to reading it.

Book Haul #1: November 2014

Book Haul #1: November 2015

O.K, I know I haven’t posted in ages but…I was in a reading slump! I know, I know, terrible, but it’s true and I am finally able to come clean. But this month it was my birthday and I got a lot of book tokens so went on a day of shopping, FOR BOOKS!!!

So this is my first ever book haul for November. Enjoy!

So these are the books I bought this month (click on the title of each books for a link to goodreads:

1. The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson

This book is like a biography of Magnus’ Life up to the end of Heavenly Fire. I have been waiting for this book to come out for ages and have finally gotten it. I know they were released as e-book copies but I am not keen on using e-readers. Plus, I managed to get one of the limited edition Hardback copies with exclusive content of Magnus Bane’s Voice-mail. Writing this, I have already read half the book and look forward to continuing my journey through Magnus’ Life.

2. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

3. The Magicians Guild by Trudi Canavan

Wow. I bought this book on the first of November and finished it on the first of November. It was amazing and I thoroughly recommend reading it. It is so well written and I loved it. But… I don’t think I’ll ever finish the series. I think it would have worked better as a single, stand alone book but I guess that’s just my opinion.

4. The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

I read the first book after watching the movie *horrified gasp*. Anyway I loved it and now have the second book to read. Some people have told me that the sequel is -meh- but I might as well try it if I enjoyed the first book so much.

5. The Kill Order by James Dashner

We’ll see…

6. Day 21 by Kass Morgan

I have read the first book and I swear it finished way too soon. They are making a second series of its TV adaptation but I know the TV show is very different and am scared it might give away stuff because I’ve heard it moves much faster. Anyway I enjoyed the 100 and am now going to read the next book some time in the holidays.

7. Of Mice and Men by John Steinback

Honestly, this book was just bought for school for my GCSE English Literature. I will read it before hand as it is quite famous and well spoken of but I’m not sure, it isn’t a genre or time/era I usually read so who knows?

8. The Inspector Calls and Other Plays by JB Priestly

This was also bought for my GCSE English Literature and I am planning to read it before hand but even though I think Of Mice and Men might surprise me, I do not feel the same way for an Inspector Calls.

News: The Mortal Instruments as a TV Series

‘The Mortal Instruments’ returning as a TV series

CityofBones

The Mortal Instruments is continuing. As a television series.

The Hollywood Reporter made the announcement that The Mortal Instruments is returning as a TV series, which is currently in development and set to begin production next year. Ed Decter will act as showrunner.

“It actually makes sense to do (the novels) as a TV series,” Constantin film and TV head Martin Moszkowicz told THR. “There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the Mortal Instruments film. In the series we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”

There are no broadcast partners yet attached.

Since production is set to begin next year (2015), it sounds like they’ll begin filming on the pilot around March next year and are aiming for a spot on the Fall 2015 TV schedule. More than likely this unfortunately means they will be recasting.

So who else has heard the news. I found out a few days ago but then it was only rumour and I hadn’t gotten round to writing a post about it yet. I am over the moon and hope that when the TV shows comes out they do it properly, not loosely but fully based on the book and I also want them to redo the first book.

You see where the article ended, More than likely this unfortunately means they will be recasting.’ I am not really that upset. Lily Collins was good but not amazing and her hair was totally the wrong colour, Isabelle was O.K, Alec was, meh and Jace, well… The actor for Jace was horrible, properly cringe-worthy acting. Also I want all the angelic runes to be on the dominant wrists. I know it’s a small detail, but it’s a small detail that I cannot let go of one bit. Oh and worse thing about the movie: They gave away the whole f-ing plot of the first three books with the CVlary and Jace secret plus the Simon foreshadowing.

All in all, I think it’s good they’re making it a TV show witha  new direstor and cast. I only hope they get the little details, and big details right and mainly REDO THE FIRST FILM WHEN IT BECOMES  A TV SERIES!!!

Half Wild First Chapter Excerpt

Read the first chapter of HALF WILD!

With six months to go until the publication of HALF WILD, here’s the first chapter. Sally would love to hear your feedback, so do tweet your reactions to @sa11egreen!

I found the excerpt on the Half Life Trilogy Site: Half Bad World.com

If you haven’t read half Bad yet then I don’t suggest reading this as it would be a spoiler.

a new day

a crossbill calls

another bird replies, not a crossbill

the first bird takes over again

and again

the crossbill-

shit, it’s morning

i’ve been asleep

it’s morning, very early

shit, shit, shit

don’t panic

need to wake up                      need to wake up

can’t believe i’ve been asl-

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchch

chhchchchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchhchchchchhchchchhchchchchhchchchhchhchchchchchchchchchhchhhchchccchchchchhchchchhhchhchchch

SHIT!

the noise is here. HERE!

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchchchhchchchchc

hhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchhchchchchhchchchhchchchchhchchchhchhchchchchchchchchchhchhhchchccchchchchhchchchhhchhchchch

that level of noise means, oh shit, someone with a mobile is close. very close. shit, i can’t believe i’ve been asleep with Hunters on my tail. and her. the fast one. she was close last night.

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchchchhchchchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchhchchchchhchchchhchchchchhchchchhchhchchchchchchchchchhchhhchchccchchchchhchchchhhchhchchch

THINK! THINK!

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchchchhchchch

chchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchhchchchchhchchchhchchchchhchchchhchhchchchchchchchchchhchhhchchccchchchchhchchchhhchhchchch

it’s a mobile phone, for sure it’s a mobile phone. the noise is in my head, not in my ears, it’s to the upper right side, inside, constant, like an electrical interference, pure hiss, mobile hiss, loud, three or four meters away loud. SHIT! THINK! THINK!

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchchch

hchchchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchh

ok right, lots of people have mobiles. if it’s a Hunter, that Hunter, and she could see me, i’d be dead by now.

i’m not dead

she can’t see me

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcchchchchchchhch

chchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchh

the noise isn’t getting louder. she’s not moving closer. but she’s not moving away either.

am i hidden?

i’m lying on my side, face pressed into the ground. totally still. can’t see anything but earth.

got to move a little.

but not yet. think first. stay calm and work it out.

there’s no breeze, no sun, just a lightness. it’s early. the sun has to be behind the mountain still. there’s the smell of earth, the pine of the forest. the ground is cool, dry, no dew. there’s the smell of the forest and . . .  there’s another smell.

what is that smell?

and there’s a taste.

a bad taste. it tastes like . . . oh no-

don’t think about it

don’t think about it

don’t think about it

don’t think about it

think about something else

think about where you are

You’re lying on the ground, in the early morning and the air is cool. You’re cold. You’re cold because . . . oh shit, oh shit . . . you’re naked. You’re naked and the top half of you is wet. Your chest, your arms . . . your face are wet.

And you move the fingers of your left hand, the tiniest of movements, and they’re sticky. Sticking together. As if with drying, sugary juice. But it’s not juice.

don’t think about it

don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it don’t think about it

DoN’t THiNk aBOUT IT

THINK ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE

THINK ABOUT STAYING ALIVE

You’ve got to move. The Hunters are close on your tail. That fast one was close. She was very close last night.

what happened last night?

what happened?

remember!

NO.

FORGET THAT. THINK ABOUT STAYING ALIVE

WORK OUT WHAT TO DO

You can look, move your head a fraction to see more. The ground by your face is thick with pine-needles. Brown pine-needles. But the brown isn’t from the pine, it’s the colour of dried blood. You’re left arm is extended. It’s streaked in it, dried, brown. But your hand isn’t streaked in it, it’s thick with it. Sopping. Red

close your eyes

close your eyes

close your eyes

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhchchchhcc

hchchchchchhchchchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchhchchchchhchchchhchchchchhc

hchchhchhchchchchchchchchchhchhhchchccchchchchhchchchhhchhchchch

You need to go. Without thinking or looking or remembering. You need to go. For you’re own safety you have to get out of here. You need to get moving. Get away from here. You can find a stream and wash. Wash it all off.

The mobile phone is close, not changing. It won’t be coming closer.

You should look, check. Turn your head to the other side. You can do it. Look, check. . .

it looks like a log

Please be a log. Please be a log. Please be a log.

Please.

it’s not a log.

it’s a shape in black and red, with black boots and with two legs; one straight, one bent. legs dressed in black. black material covering the torso. light-brown hair. her hair. cut short. sopping with blood. her face is turned away.

she’s lying as still as a log

still wet

still oozing

not fast any more

the mobile phone is hers

chchchchchchchhchchchcchhhhhchchchhchcchchchhhchchchhchchchcchchhcchcchchchhcchchhcchchchchchchhchchchchchhchchchchhchhhchchchchccchchchchchh

and as you raise your head you see the wound that is her throat

and it is jagged and bloody and deep and

red

So what did you think? I, myself, cannot wait to read Half Wild. I am so excited right now that as I right this little paragraph I am literally jumping up and down in my seat and am about to reread Half Bad for the fourth time since I bought it.
